Weekend upgrade was a win!

Snagged a weekend First Class upgrade on Avanti West Coast and it was fantastic! The app was super easy to use, just placed my bid and got the notification that I won. Totally worth it for the extra space. Definitely using them again!

Good value, minor app bug

I bought a flexible train ticket from Manchester to Birmingham and then upgraded with Seatfrog to TransPennine Express First Class. The upgrade itself was easy to bid on and saved me a good amount compared to buying First Class outright. Delivery of the digital ticket was instant. My only complaint was the app glitched a bit when I tried to view my past upgrades, but it sorted itself out after a restart. Customer service chat was quick to respond when I asked about it.

Seamless GWR upgrade experience

I recently used Seatfrog for a GWR upgrade on a trip from Bristol to London Paddington. The ordering process was straightforward in the app; I linked my existing standard ticket and then placed a bid for a First Class upgrade. The auction opened about 24 hours before departure, and I received notifications keeping me updated on my bid status. I won the upgrade at a decent price, and the new digital ticket was immediately available in the app. Boarding with the new ticket was no problem at all, just showed it to the conductor. I didn't need to contact support, so can't comment there, but overall, it was a very efficient way to travel in more comfort for less.

Always reliable for upgrades

Used Seatfrog again for an LNER upgrade last week. It was for a trip from London to Edinburgh, just like my last one. The process was smooth, bids opened on time, and I got a great price again. Consistency is why I keep coming back, never had an issue.

Does anyone know if you can actually use a Railcard discount with the upgrades on Seatfrog? Or is it just for standard tickets?

M Mike L. 2 months ago
Afaik, you can't use your Railcard discount on the upgrade itself. It's for the original ticket. But you can use a Railcard for the standard ticket you're upgrading from, if that makes sense.

Nope, the upgrade price is usually set. Railcards are for your main fare. Still worth it though, even without that extra discount on the upgrade part.

My train got cancelled after I won an upgrade. What happens then? Do I lose my upgrade money?

D Dana Kaur 2 months ago
Nah, you should get a refund for the upgrade if the train is cancelled. They're usually pretty good about that, it's in their policy.

They'll refund you. I had that happen once on a GWR train, the money came back to my account within a couple of days.

How soon before the train leaves do the auctions usually open up? Trying to plan a trip next month.

J Jared E. 2 months ago
It varies, but usually a few days before. Sometimes even on the day of travel, like an hour or two before. You have to keep an eye on the app.

Mostly 24-48 hours before, I've noticed. But definitely can pop up closer to departure, especially on quieter routes.

Anyone know if you can stack different discounts? Like, a referral code AND a student discount or something?

C Colin V. 2 months ago
Nah, I've tried. Usually, it's one discount per transaction. You gotta pick the best one for your situation.

Pretty sure you can only use one code at a time. Most places are like that.

Is Seatfrog actually cheaper than just buying a First Class ticket directly from LNER?

T Tom 2 months ago
Almost always. It's usually significantly cheaper because you're bidding for unsold seats. I've saved like 50-60% sometimes.

Definitely. If you're flexible and don't mind the last-minute aspect, it's way cheaper. Direct FC tickets are usually super expensive.
